Born in Strasbourg, in the east of France, Alain was always fascinated by the work of artisans. After briefly considering woodworking, he pursued a career as a chef. He trained and worked in some of the finest restaurants of France and Switzerland.

In 1991, Alain immigrated to Canada and was the executive chef in an exclusive lodge in Haliburton, Ontario. He enjoyed exploring the wilderness of the area; he could spot the beauty in nature and capture it on film. Photography became a passion and still is.

Two years later, Alain moved to Fernie and worked at Island Lake Lodge where he built its reputation for exquisite dining. He was soon known as one of the finest chefs in the area.

Woodworking, always a hobby, eventually became a part-time business building rustic log furniture. By 2002, custom designed home furnishing was keeping Alain busy full time. He also uses his skill and creativity to remodel and create healthy, functional living spaces.

Alain’s constant search for environmentally friendly solutions in his work come from an immense respect for nature, its beauty and generosity. Alain’s organic approach to woodworking is very much like his cooking, finding his inspiration in the raw material its self. His connection to the medium of wood in all its shapes brings the beauty of trees and a timeless feel to the finished pieces.
